Special Skills
My experience in outdoor pursuits, individual sports, whitewater rafting, trip leading, medical background, racing, team building, and music have led me to develop a unique set of skills designed to educate kids how to become physically active for the remainder of their lives. I have competed with and against some of the best athletes in the midwest, worked educating youth outdoor educational skills, trip led rafting trips of over seventy people ranging from six year olds to eighty year olds, and safely carried passengers through desolate rivers such as the Colorado, Arkansas, Yampa, and Green, for upwards to three weeks at a time. My drive to educate, spread knowledge, and increase awareness of the benefits physical activity delivers results not only in my professional life, such as coordinating All Children Exercising Simultaneously, (ACES) and the Sparrow Mileage Club program, but in my private life as well, coordinating Fire'n'Ice, a social cross-country ski race.
Though my passion has a focus on outdoor recreation and lifetime leisure sports I am equally well versed in teaching of skills related to team sports. I played a variety of sports in high school; earning a letter in football, track, and rugby. I then went on to play rugby for the University of Michigan for one season. Currently, I enjoy playing sand volleyball during the summer months.
